Activity 1:  Let's review our work collocations!

Activity 2:  Tell me your story!

2.1  Complete the following paragraph with the verbs provided. Notice the use of the past simple, past continuous and past perfect to tell the story. You will also notice the past perfect continuous form (had + been + -ing form), which is used to emphasize an action's duration or to indicate that it was going on for a while before another event happened. After you complete the exercise, you should write an appropriate ending for the story!

 

2.2  Choose the correct past tense form to answer the question about narrative tenses and how they are used.

 

2.3  Say the sentence on the card using the verbs provided in the correct past tense form (past simple, past continuous or past perfect). Flip the card to check your answer and listen to the sentence.

 

 

Activity 3:  Let's go back and review!

3.1  The past perfect is used to make clear which past event out of two or more happened first, i.e., before the other ones; it is commonly used with expressions such as just, ever, already, never, and yet. Choose the best answer for these exercises.

 

3.2  The past perfect can be used to give a reason that explains another situation that also happened in the past but at a later time. For this exercise, give an explanation in the past perfect for the situation given.

 

3.3  Let's also review the past progressive or continuous and the past simple together.
